We have a core of teachers who assist parents in their homeschooling needs. We are also volunteer-based and want families to work together to achieve their academic goals. Parent volunteers are encouraged, even with younger siblings.
I started my education career as a teacher assistant in 2001, and became a certified teacher in 2011. I have worked in many educational settings which would include, non-profit school, public school as well as Classical Christian school. I have also worked with students from grade K - 12th grade, within the general education classroom as well as the special education classroom. I have a daughter who had prayed during her entire 7th grade year to be homeschooled for her 8th grade year and until she graduates. So, after a lot of prayer myself and discussing this idea with my husband, I resigned from the public school and came home to homeschool my daughter. I also started a part time tutoring business to help bring in some income. It was during that year of homeschooling and tutoring that I had noticed a need for a micro school. A school that would allow children to learn in the way they were created to learn. The Lord brought Caitlin into my life in the fall of 2022 and we soon formed a plan to launch Logos Homeschool Academy. To God be the glory, we have had a successful first year start.
Caitlin Hodnefield was homeschooled K-12th grade and graduated from Ellsworth Community College with an AA in Equine Science and then went on to Iowa State University to receive a B.A. in Animal Science. God, horses, and hunting are her main hobbies! She also loves reading and is currently writing clean fantasy books for young adults. Caitlin has held a variety of jobs over the years allowing her experience in many different arenas. She has worked at several different Bible camps as a wrangler and year round staff taking care of the horses. She holds a judges card for judging open horse shows in Iowa and enjoys judging shows every summer.
Caitlin also spent several years as a librarian at her local library. She was the teen/tween coordinator, planning and running programs for the kids year round. She also teaches as an adjunct at Ellsworth Community College for their Equine program. Caitlin gives riding lessons on the side and helps run a writing group for homeschool families.
She has spoken about her writing and how to become an author at various places over the last few years. Caitlin enjoys all things science and literary. Her and her husband love to spend time together hunting and hiking.
Allison hails from northwest Iowa and made central Iowa home after graduating college. She attended a Christian school from K-7th grade and then homeschool until graduation - while also taking community college classes her senior year.
Allison then attended Dordt College (now University) in Sioux Center, Iowa, and graduated in 2013 with a B.A. in Elementary Education and minors in the middle school classroom and business. She later completed her M.Ed. in school leadership from Dordt in 2018. Allison says, "Dordt taught me not only what it means to be a teacher, but specifically what it means to be a Christian teacher. Everything belongs to the Lord and fits into His story!"
Allison spent six years teaching in 2 different small Christian schools. First, she has 5 years of teaching in the 5th-8th grade classrooms, having taught everything except 7th/8th grade science and even some 3rd/4th grade writing. Then, she has 1 year experience teaching 1st/2nd grade. Teaching in combined-age classrooms is great experience for our microschool setting!
Allison and her husband Daniel have two young children. They enjoy participating in community and church events and spending time together as a family.
